Hometown: Modesto, CA
Donnie “Crumbs” Counts Born in 1979. Raised in Panama until the age of 10. In 1989 he and his family relocated to Modesto, California. It was there in Modesto where he first saw Bboying and Freestyle dancing and instantly got hooked into the world of dance. The 209 area of Modesto and Stockton, California was notoriously known for their incredible dance functions and in turn bred many amazing dancers with unique dance styles. In1994, he unified with some of these dancers and together they started a crew entitled “Style Elements.”
He has always had a unique approach to the art of Bboying. He is best known for his creative flow, intricate thread combinations, and unique blow ups. His unorthodox blend of power and style contributed greatly to the development of the term “PowerStyle.” He also developed a now popular style called “stacking.” Overall he prides himself on being as well rounded as possible.
In 2003, he also became a member of another crew entitled “Killafornia.” This crew consisted of mostly the next generation of Bboys who were inspired by his original crew Style Elements. Along with the Style Elements blueprint and his experience, This helped mold Killafornia into one of the best crews in the world.
In his career, he had accumulated over 100 1st place titles in some of the biggest national and international competitions by 2004. Those titles were both solo and crew competitions combined. Some notable title mentions are “Freestyle Session” 5 times, “RadioTron” 3 times, “UK Championships” 2 times and “Battle Of The Year” with Crumbs also taking Best Dancer honors at that event. He also is a recipient of the prestigious “Spy Award” and has been awarded “Most Creative Bboy” and “Best Crew” at “The Hip Hop Dance Awards.”
He has consistently attacked both the underground and commercial worlds. He has choreographed for some of the biggest names in the business with artists such as Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera to name a few. He has been featured in and choreographed for major dance motion pictures “You Got Served” and “How She Move.” His dance has also led him into acting roles in Sony Pictures “Planet Bboy” and Disney’s “Step Up 2.” Some commercials include McDonald’s, Coke, Apple, Volkswagen, and Toyota. Crumbs is also the main character in Sony PlayStations Video Game “Bboy.” Many videos throughout his career can be seen on his youtube page. Youtube.com/BboyCrumbs
He is also a DJ. Started DJ’ing in 1993. Before he learned the art of DJ’ing, he played the drums. So the connection between the two was pretty seamless. Innovative, funky and fun are the three best ways to describe his DJ style. Many free mixtapes available to download on his Soundcloud page. Soundcloud.com/DJ-BboyCrumbs
Meaning Behind the Moniker
C.R.U.M.B.S. (Creative Rhythms Underground Making BBoy Styles) is best known for his creativity and unique approach to the art of Bboying. So it’s only fitting that his name matches both his personality and purpose within the art form. The name “Crumbs” represents that recurring moment, anywhere and everywhere he breaks, when he leaves behind pieces of his art on the dance floor for others to pick up off and evolve with: “Spreading Crumbs.” Crumbs is also a metaphor for “styles.”
